Money, Fame and the Knowledge of English. In India, these 3 factors play a huge role in how society judges an individual.
English Vinglish is the story of a woman who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. The film is a light -hearted yet touching and transformational journey of Shashi. Circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language, teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self assured and confident woman.
The film is shot mostly in New York and captures the inherent struggle of many people all over the world with the English Language. Hilarious, touching, sensitive, this film marks the come back of India’s biggest female star…Sridevi.
Written and Directed by Gauri Shinde. Produced by R. Balki

I like it already! :-)
Sridevi is having her comeback after 14 years with English Vinglish, which is set to release in October.
I love these kind of movies because they address real issues that we can all relate to, that we can all learn from.
I just remember the shock landing in India for the first time and thinking how will I get around without knowing the language. Even now, knowing just a few words of Hindi, I feel very conscious about how silly I must sound. My Italian dad never learned how to speak German properly, the country I was raised in. People treated him condescendingly as if he were a second class individual. It always hurt me deeply, so I can relate to anybody who comes to a country struggling to learn their language. God didn’t make any second-class people. In his eyes we are all first-class. With or without proper knowledge of languages. I am still struggling myself with English grammar and vocabulary. Luckily, here in the US I am not the only one :-) kinda makes you feel better about it..
yes! Love this concept too! Must see – on DVD! :D
