“Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola” with Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma promises to be a RIOT

From the versatile director of Maqbool, Omkara and Kaminey, Vishal Bhardwaj, comes a new venture that I am really looking forward to: Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.

Bhardwaj’s films have always a touch of the unusual. That’s what I love about him.

The Blue Umbrella and 7 Khoon Maaf, those were critically acclaimed films. I found them intriguing. They didn’t fit the typical Bollywood mold. Bhardwaj’s movies are edgy, sometimes uncomfortable, realistic and out of the ordinary at the same time. Très kashyapish, sometimes bordering on the surreal. I love his style.

The script is co-written by his right hand man Abhshek Chaubey, who directed Ishqiya. Don’t know much about him but this creative team has a lot to show for.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is starring Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma and will release Jan11th, 2013 (India).  I get the feeling from the trailer that those two will have a killer chemistry. Imran with beard. hot.

Kaminey: The Scoundrels -- Guddu and Charlie are identical twins born and raised in the slums of Mumbai. They dream of leaving the squalor behind and moving into a life of prosperity and dignity. Though they look alike, the two are as different as chalk and cheese. One lisps, the other stammers. One is an honest, diligent social worker while the other hedges bets at a racecourse. The brothers want nothing to do with each other. But when Charlie gets mixed up in a deadly get-rich-quick scheme and Guddu realizes that the love of his life has unwittingly put a price on his head, their lives begin to collide. They find themselves facing rogue politicians, drug dealers and crooked cops. As they uncover a sinister plot laid out by the 'political-police-underworld' nexus, their stories finally converge to a point when they realize they only have each other.

RIP Yash Chopra

Yash Chopra. Image found at The Hindu.

Yash Chopra passes away at 80 years of age, a few weeks before Jab Tak Hain Jaan,  the highly anticipated movie with SRK and Katrina Kaif, opens. Eerily, he had announced it would be his last. According to what I read it looks like he passed away from Dengue fever.

This is very sad news indeed, for the family and the film industry. He lived a creative and blessed life. His prolific career spans back to 1959 when he directed his first feature film Dhool Ka Phool.

Unforgettable Veer Zaara..

Thank you, Yash Chopra! You will live forever in the hearts of all Bollywood fans!
