Jiah Khan’s suicide comes as a warning to all heartbroken lovers.

I am looking at pictures of Suraj Pancholi and want to pull out my every single hair. I want to call out to Jiah and shake her: “Look at him!!! Is this man worth a suicide, when you have everything going for yourself?” The pain she causes her parents, her friends, her nation, all over some loose canon of a boyfriend.

Upsetting.

of course, there must have been an underlying depression, because you just don’t end your life cuz you are blue and things don’t go your way. But even people who are not clinically depressed, can touch rock bottom and have thoughts of suicide. I don’t know how thin the line has to be, for someone to take the actual steps. From time to time we are all depressed, so it’s really something that concerns us all.

My heart broke on several occasions. I spent years crying over some love sorrow nonsense. At the end you look back and realize the futility of it all. What a waste of time and energy!  There is so much to live for, to enjoy There are so many other forms of love that surround us. So even if we got burned, promises were broken or romantic love is unrequited, take a deep breath, shake off your insecurities and look at all the other areas of your life. Make it a point to see the good around you, ESPECIALLY when love sorrow knocked at your door. Life is larger than the notion of romantic love, sentimental love, or whatever love. We need to experience every facet of life, including pain and loss, to live life at its fullest.

It never feels okay to get burned, but we have to accept it and walk through the ring of fire from time to time. It’s not a big deal, afterall, with everything around us and within us in constant evolution.. And here is my tip of the day, throw your love sorrows into a bucket and out of the window. Keep that open until the sun rises. And rising it will.

Suraj Pancholi arrested in Jiah Khan suicide case

Suraj Pancholi arrested in Jiah Khan suicide case
Jiah and Suraj Pancholi reportedly dated for a year
Actress Jiah Khan’s friend Suraj Pancholi has been arrested by Mumbai police in connection with the 25-year-old’s suicide. (Read: In letter, Jiah wrote: If I stay here, I will crave you)

Suraj, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, has been charged with abetment of suicide, a non-bailable charge, based on a complaint filed by Jiah’s mother Rabiya Amin Khan, the police said. He is likely to be produced in court today. (Also read: Once Bollywood’s brightest young thing)

The 23 year old Suraj reportedly dated Jiah for nearly a year. He was the last person she spoke to on the phone, police said, before hanging herself in her Mumbai home on June 3.

Suraj and his father Aditya Pancholi were questioned by Mumbai police for three hours on June 4.

Jiah left no suicide note. However, a six-page letter addressed to an unnamed person has been found and handed over to the police by her family.

In the letter, which appears to be written to a former or present boyfriend, Jiah says, “If you’re reading this I might have already left or about to leave. I am broken inside.”

Jiah talks about “kissing goodbye” her film career and claims that a promise of an engagement after a year of dating was broken.

“Your life was about partying and women. Mine was you and my work. If I stay here I will crave you and miss you,” says Jiah, accusing the boyfriend of cheating on her, in the poignant letter. (Also read: Actor Jiah Khan commits suicide in Mumbai home)

Jiah’s mother Rabiya told the press, “The letter does not have a name, so who it is addressed to is something you can only ask Jiah. But because of the incidents in the past and what she told me, all of these things point out to Suraj Pancholi.” She also said that she had urged her daughter to end the relationship.

Anurag Kashyap part of Sundance jury

This is fantastic news indeed.   Finally somebody here in the US paid attention.  Showing   Gangs of Wasseypur in Cannes earlier this year and then in Toronto opened new doors. To have him part of the jury will make me follow the festival with even greater interest.  Kashy could be very instrumental in regard to exporting Indian film to the US..  I hope he makes great connections at Sundance because there is a lot to be said about the under-representation of Indian film here, starting with distribution, advertisement…
it always aggravates me that Indian films are ignored on a lot of sites and even listed in the category of Foreign Film. eg Netflix, moviefone IMDb upcoming releases. Nada. Zilch.. Poorly reviewed and misunderstood.  People wrongly associate Indian film with just romance and song and dance. Yes, music might be an integral part, but young filmmakers have found innovative ways using music as part of the narrative, something the West can actually learn from.
But that’s besides the point. India has a large pool of creative young talent just waiting to rise and get some recognition abroad. The time has come.  Proud of Kashyap, his work, his intellect and happy to see him being recognized as the innovative filmmaker he is and trailblazer in this native country.
Here is the article I found on ndtv.
Anurag Kashyap part of Sundance film festival jury
Press Trust of India | Thursday, December 20, 2012 (Mumbai)
He is currently working on his next venture titled Ugly.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is part of the prestigious jury for the 2013 edition of Sundance film festival.

The director’s epic crime saga Gangs of Wasseypur is also screening at the festival in the Spotlight section of the festival.

Anurag Kashyap is part of the 19 members of five juries awarding prizes at the festival, which runs from January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.

Anurag Kashyap, who has directed films like Black Friday, Dev D, Gulaal and Gangs of Wasseypur I&II, will take part in the festival as the jury member for the World Cinema Dramatic section alongside director Nadine Labaki and producer Joana Vincent.

It has been a good year for the director with Wasseypur doing well at the home box office besides travelling to festivals like Cannes and Toronto. Set in Bihar’s Dhanbad district, it was also honoured at Asia-Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane and Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) in Macau, held recently.

“It is a truly special film for me and I’m overwhelmed with the audience reception and happy to know that the team’s efforts have been honoured at such large platforms,” Anurag Kashyap said in a statement.

Making headlines in India: Kirsten Stewart wants to work with Hrithik

Kirsten Stewart

Kirsten kam chayie Hritihik ke sath: Suzanne, get out those pink handcuffs that u might keep in the closet for other purposes… :-) and Hrithik: RUN!

In this interview she talks about growing maternal instincts. I dunno if I wanted my man to work with that little foxy siren.. especially with her newly discovered nesting instincts.  But hey, I can see her in Bollywood. She would look gorgeous in Indian garbs. Except they should make it a silent movie. Maybe RGV will get her for an item song. He’d be so down for that! :-)

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and its magic ingredient: Kunal Kapoor

I loved Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana!!   I watched it right after Sandy hit New York. Like any self-respecting Bollywood addict, would I miss a chance like that? Storms, floods, gasoline shortage.. screw that! :-)  I loved the preview of LSTCK.  Anything Kashyap will get me off the sofa and out of the house, even if it’s only a producing gig. I know I will be gloriously entertained.
And I am a big fan of Kunal Kapoor, whose eyes are burning with a warm fire. Or a dangerous fire. As needed. A criminal who redeems himself or the good guy who will turn bad, or just the reluctant romantic hero.  Always a tad off-beat, which allows him to switch into different avatars, playing out all shades of a searching and uncertain soul. That’s what he is. A soulful actor. I always feel Bollywood doesn’t know where to put him. He doesn’t fit into categories and thus he is being sadly underutilized and underrated as an actor. Under the right direction and with the right script his qualities start shining. And THIS was a GREAT role for him, for instance!
Punjabi-born Omi (Kunalji) gets into the hands of some ruthless money sharks in London, can’t pay off his debts. In order to buy time he promises them that once he gets back to India he’ll be able to get them back their cash. Lands in India, goes back to his village in Punjab, absolutely hapless how to make good on his promise. Well, we learn that he had left India in a hurry with money he stole from grandpa. Pretends he made it big in London. Falls for his ex girlfriend, Harman, who has become the village doctor (played by Huma Qureshi). First she rejects him, but we know how it goes… Huma, too, doesn’t fit the glam Bollywood heroine mold and that was a pleasant surprise. She played her role with earthy and maternal grace. Loved it. The characters felt real. The supporting cast was well-chosen.
Most of all, I could reach out with my hand and touch India. Unabashed. Rural. You could almost smell the earth, the spices and taste the food.
Finally a foodie movie coming out of India. If you love food and magic ingredients, don’t miss this one. Well, in the theaters you might have missed it already, but by all means, go and buy the DVD.
Directed by Sameer Sharma
Good interview on ndtv movies with Kunal Kapoor. But besides writing, he seems to have set his heart on racing too. So go and check out the link underneath and go to the ndtv movie page, it got more about him…
Kunal Kapoor to focus on writing
Press Trust of India | Sunday, November 18, 2012 (New Delhi)
Kunal is also set to star in Kashyap’s film, where he will play Raj Comics’ superhero Doga. He will also appear in Chamkila, a biography of controversial Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
Right from its inception, Kunal Kapoor was actively involved in the writing process of his recently released film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khuranaand the actor says he wants to take his new found interest forward. Kunal, 35, is currently busy putting together few scripts for films.”I have been working on something like I did in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khuranato put together a project that I believe in. I am writing and there are three to four stories that I have been working on. I am not writing a whole script, I am somebody who is more like a bouncing board, who ideates and puts together things. So, hopefully things will fall into place soon,” Kunal told PTI.

When asked if he plans to turn director any time soon, the actor said, “Directors have to pamper egos and actors get their egos pampered. Right now I am happy being pampered and have no plans to direct a film.”

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and UTV Motion Pictures and directed by newcomer Sameer Sharma, was made within a budget of Rs 3 crore but managed to set the cash registers ringing. The film set around a chicken recipe, also starred Gangs of Wasseypur girl Huma Qureshi.

“It is a film I believed in very strongly. Sameer and I have known each other for a while. We used to keep talking about the sort of films we’d like to do. We started the process two years back, we took it to lot of people,” said Kunal, who was in NCR recently to launch the new men’s soap series by Fiama Di Wills.

“We were doing something different from what Punjab is perceived as and nobody wanted to take a chance with it. But Anurag did and now to see the film having the effect that we wanted, is absolutely amazing,” he added.

Since making his Bollywood debut with Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities in 2005, Kunal has acted in ten films – Rang De Basanti, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Lamhaa to name a few. Last year he starred alongside superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Don 2.

When asked why he is seen so less on the big screen, Kunal said, “I am not choosy. If I had the chance I would do five films in a year. But the films have to be exciting. There is no point going to the sets of a film and thinking why am I here? And also for the last one and half years I was putting together Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. That took a lot of effort and time. It is not like I want to do one film a year but it is just that I want to do quality work.”

Kunal is also set to star in Kashyap’s film, where he will play Raj Comics’ superhero Doga. He will also appear in Chamkila, a biography of controversial Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.

Doga is very far away. It is a very big film and very expensive and you need a lot of money for it. Next year Anurag will start shooting a film called Bombay Velvet. So Doga will start after that. Chamkila is something I am very excited about but it being developed. We are working on putting the script together,” he said.

Brad Pitt on Indian cinema and working in Bollywood

Hollywood/Bollywood cross-pollination. It would be awesome if Brad Pitt were to play in a Bollywood movie!!  I know a lot of Indians who are almost apologetic about their movies. It would restore their faith  :-)

image found on google

……..”Indian cinema seems to be growing very well at its own pace. I would love to work in a Bollywood film as there is so much drama and colour in the films there,” Pitt told IANS in an email interview.

“The film making, I hear, has evolved a lot in India and of late we have witnessed some good films making a presence at the Oscars and the world stage,” added the actor.

The presence of Indian films and their artists has witnessed a boost in the western world in recent times. International premieres, opportunities for actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, as well as A.R.Rahman’s Oscar-winning feat for Slumdog Millionaire have drawn international interest in India’s cinematic offerings.

“That tells you a lot about the quality of the actors and the films. You never know when I might decide to work in a Bollywood film and do one of those dance numbers with the whole crew in the backdrop,” quipped Pitt, who shot in the country for 2007 movie A Mighty Heart.

The 48-year-old actor, who has been named among the sexiest men in the world multiple times, is especially fond of former Miss World Aishwarya. He says he is open to work with her.

“Given a chance, I would like to work with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan because she’s a versatile actor. She has worked brilliantly in films like The Mistress of Spices, The Last Legion, The Pink Panther 2 and Provoked to name a few,” said Brad Pitt.

“She is one of the most popular actresses of Bollywood, who has achieved huge acclaim in the west for her style, beauty and acting skills. I think we missed an opportunity to be cast together for the movie Troy,” he added.

Aishwarya was reportedly offered to essay the historical part of Briseis, but she turned down the offer by director Wolfgang Petersen. Troy, released in 2007, continues to be one of Pitt’s best performances till date.

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt has finally decided to enter wedlock with his lady love Angelina Jolie, with whom he makes up the popular ‘Brangelina’ brand. The couple have six children. Though his wedding date is yet to be fixed, the actor has wished India’s ‘Saifeena’ – Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor – all the best for their D-day next month.

“To be honest, I really think Saif and Kareena can be called Bollywood’s sexiest couple so far. I am glad to know they are getting married soon. I wish them all the success for a happy married life,” he said……

Akshay tweeting OMG songs but mum on Joker

You always wonder what it means when actors are not available for the promotion of their upcoming movies. Sometimes their schedule won’t permit and they are shooting somewhere else, but often it means there are differences and the actor is not happy with the end result. Or there was a mega fight on set, 8 on the richter scale.

I remember Abhay Deol shining through absentia during the promotion of “Aisha” – which I didn’t think was such a bad movie. It wasn’t GREAT but certainly enjoyable. And I loved Sonam Kapoor as his filmi love interest. I never figured out what happened there.. did he feel unappreciated? I thought it looked really awkward that Sonam was doing the promotional stuff all by herself. Doesn’t look good when the heart of the movie is a love story and only one half is showing up on the promotional parcours.

Now here with Joker we know it’s not exactly a love story, it’s about a village. But why isn’t Akshay Kumar mentioning the movie on twitter or anywhere else? What’s behind that? Apparently he is not so shy in promoting OMG Oh My God. a movie that won’t come out until end of September.

If you google News for promotion of the movie Joker, you will see that the Bollywood media octopus is scratching its head. The moloch doesn’t know what’s going on either. Farah Khan is stated as saying they want to promote the aliens and not Akki. What the….? Is she kidding us?  and that Akki and Sonakshi were ‘overexposed’ during Rowdy Rathore? Hey, that was a pretty bad movie! Not that it was Akki’s fault.

Now we learn that Sonakshi Sinha might skip all promotional gigs too. Akki complained about the lyrics of a song “I Want to Fakt You” not being family-friendly. Haha. He has a point there, I guess.  But  doesn’t FAKT refer to FACT and the A is pronounced as in PACKED? He complained also apparently about the fakt that Joker wasn’t released or shot in 3D, as originally planned.

Now my feeling is that if the end product is good and the actors believe in the movie, they will be happy to promote a film, regardless of differences, creative, financial or other.

So in this case,  are the actors pushed out of the picture and replaced by aliens in a new marketing strategy, as Farah Khan (the damage controller) wants us to believe or are Akshay and Sonakshi jumping from a sinking ship before it goes nosedown Titanic?

We shall see in the next few days.

Personally I have nothing against aliens promoting their flicks. It’s about time they get full recognition as a minority on this planet. I also pledge they should have access to free education and healthcare.
