Run to see Milkha Run

Once you get to the theater,  you can relax. The movie is 3 hours long. Even long by Bollywood standards,  but you will discover you got the stamina of a long-distance runner. There is not a dull moment in this heartfelt biopic. Farhan Akhtar delivers a lifetime performance as yesterday’s Olympian sprinter and sports sensation Milkha Singh.

For preparing for this role alone he deserves an Oscar. And probably his trainer should get one too.  And OmPrakash Om. Accolades to the director of the movie.

Rakeyesh Omprakash Mehra, who gave us Rang De Basanti and Delhi-6,  has validated himself again as one of the  best contemporary directors of Indian cinema.

The movie had an excellent supporting cast.Sometimes it’s a weakness of Bollywood productions not to give enough weight to the supporting cast. This one was superbly chosen. Kudos to the casting director and team.

Sonam Kapoor had a relatively small but important role, as Biro, Milkha’s first love. However, she vanishes too fast, never to be seen again. I would have preferred to get a glimpse of her whereabouts to get a sense of closure. And even if it was just seeing her ONCE cry watching her sweetheart-lost on TV… :-)

I wish the movie had some live-footage  at the end, and donning us with a little bit of Milkha Singh info before the rolling credits. So, first thing I did after coming home was reading up on Milkha Singh. (Farhan really looks a little bit like him).

Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor teaming up again, yay!!! :-)

Good news!!

I don’t know what Abhay objected to but I happened to love Aisha. I thought they had a wonderful chemistry. Fashionista, elegant as ever,  Sonam was a joy to watch. She filled the cinema with scent of flowers in that role. Abhay was perfectly cast. It was a light entertainer, appealing to women probably more than men. But still, I thought it was a sweet movie.

I am very happy to read that these two will be cast again together in Anand Rai’s next film. I truly hope the hatchet stays buried forever because these two make a winning screen couple. Whatever Abhay might have said that has inflamed Sonam’s heart, I am sure he didn’t mean to hurt anyone.  Let’s hope it’s all forgotten, forgiven. Bollywood is a small family with a big heart at the end of the day. People fight. People make up. Just like in any other family.

Abhay Deol, Sonam Kapoor bury the past

Thursday, April 26, 2012 (Mumbai)
Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor seem to have buried the hatchet and are teaming up once again in Tanu Weds Manudirector Anand L Rai’s next film.Abhay is doing a small but significant role in the film, which marks the Bollywood debut of the South star Rajnikanth’s son-in-law and Kolavari Disinger-actor, Dhanush.Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor had a fall-out during the shoot of Sonam’s home venture, Aisha. Reportedly, Mr Deol was not too happy with the way his role and the film had turned out. He was even quoted saying some unflattering things about Anil Kapoor. The actress didn’t take it lightly and reacted strongly against him. After their initial outburst, both the actors later claimed all was well between them and that they were open to working together again.

A source said, “Abhay and Sonam are very professional actors. They won’t let personal differences come in the way of their professional lives. Both share mutual respect for each other as actors. When the director told Sonam that he was considering Abhay for the role, she was more than happy. Abhay is also comfortable working with Sonam again.”

Without divulging much on their roles, the source informed that both the actors will share screen space in the film. “All I can say is that they will come face to face and their chemistry is amazing in the scene,” the source revealed.

The source also said, “Abhay took it up because it’s a beautiful role and he loved it.” The film, which is going on floor by the end of May, will be shot in Benaras.

Sonam Kapoor invited by Salvatore Ferragamo

I have a crush on Sonam Kapoor – I know, I am a woman, but still..   Her beauty is so exquisite,  so refined.  In Delhi 6 I had my first  Sonam-Oh-La-La moment and I watched Aisha a few times just because I find her so sublime and refreshing. That and the beautiful soundtrack…  It doesn’t surprise me that Sonam has become a style icon and graces every red carpet in the world…

I am not done writing about her but I am late for work…

Sonam Kapoor invited to Salvatore Ferragamo headquarter

Friday, Feb 17, 2012

sonam kapoor1 200x262 BollywoodWorld.com, After Priyanka Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan, actress Sonam Kapoor is set to be hosted by Salvatore Ferragamo as their special guest at Palazzo Spini Feroni, the historic Florentine headquarter of the leading luxury brand.

She will visit the label’s headquarter Feb 22 as part of the “Shoes for a Star” project, and get a special, customised pair of Ferragamo shoes of her choice.

The daughter of “Slumdog Millionaire” actor Anil Kapoor, will also get to sit in the front row at the autumn-winter 2012 fashion show in Milan Feb 26.

The VIP treatment given to the actress will match the treatment once meted to yesteryear Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

A guest at the centrally-located Gallery Art Hotel, which is owned by the Ferragamo Group, Sonam has been invited to Palazzo Spini Feroni for a welcome lunch with the Ferragamo family and for a tour of the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo.

During her visit, she will meet with expert shoemakers who will measure her feet for wooden lasts, an essential part of the Ferragamo shoemaking process. She will also meet with the shoe designers, who will create a customised shoe in line with her tastes and requests.

Sonam’s sense of style is chic and urban — a fact well-cemented with her look in the film “Aisha”, in which she carried the brand’s iconic bag Sofia with much elan.

In the next few days, Sonam will be styled in spring-summer 2012 collection for an exclusive photo shoot at Ferragamo’s XV century property Villa Il Borro, with the Harper’s Bazaar India. – IANS

No dibbs to bikini: Sonam Kapoor

Can we give the poor girl a break here?  why will people bother her about it? would you want to walk around in a bikini with a whole nation watching? I feel bad for these actresses who are made to strip down their clothes to a bare minimum so that guys come to see the movie.  I don’t think it’s necessary. We loved Juhi fully dressed, Kajol fully dressed, Rekha fully dressed.  This  new bikini mania in Bollywood is beyond me. The worst part is that girls like Sonam or Anushka Sharma (who has recently dropped a lot of weight, unfortunately) start feeling bad about themselves, and aren’t they most beautiful as is?  Kareena did herself a great disfavor when she gave into the bikini fad.  Sonam shouldn’t have to justify why she doesn’t want to wear a bikini.  I bet as we are speaking she is being approached by hordes of personal trainers  who will want to help her get over her “insecurities” and then the directors will push it, until  poor Sonam starts breaking down. Even if you have the perfect body, maybe you still choose to keep it under locks and in the family :-) how about that? That’s not an option?  So, I like the fact that Sonam stands strong. Not only on this issue, by the way. She is very outspoken and I like that about her.  I read that she was saying “Mausam”,  the movie Shahid Kapoor and her both star in, doesn’t appeal to the youth. And why shouldn’t she say that? It’s her opinion and I happen to agree with her. It’s a nice movie but definitely for a more mature audience, tad old-fashioned. And that’s okay, too. Pourquoi pas?

Being honest in interviews is a virtue. Sometimes you realize you need a lot of strength to stand by your words. They happen to backfire, to sensationalize, and all for sudden you stand amidst crowds of photographers and journalists who want to pin you down and keep harking away on the same issues. “is it true that you said..”

I want to tell her, Sonam don’t worry, carry on with your acting , with saying what’s on your mind. It’s refreshing.  Be comfortable with who you are. You are an exquisitely elegant dresser and you know what looks good on you. You are a Knock-Out, Gurl!  Don’t change.

Sonam Kapoor refuses to wear a bikini

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor, during the launch of Confessions of a Serial Dieter by Kalli Purie said that she will never wear a bikini on-screen since she is not confident of her body.Sonam Kapoor has admitted many a time on several occasions that she doesn’t have the best body in the industry. According to Sonam, she looks good only because of the clothes she puts on.

The 26-year-old actress, who is known for her sartorial choices, said that it’s the clothes which make her body look good as she is still a fat girl inside despite appearing thin. “I don’t have the best body… I have loose skin. I look good because of the clothes I wear. I choose my clothes very carefully, which make me look thin and perfectly fit my body,” Sonam told PTI.

Sonam Kapoor said that though she does a lot of exercise and maintains a strict diet regime, she sticks to certain types and colours of clothes. The actress, who had previously said she will be donning a bikini for the first time in an upcoming untitled project, however, said she will never wear a bikini on-screen as she is not confident about her body.

“I will never wear a bikini on-screen because I am not confident enough. I know that I will not look good. I am not comfortable in showing off my body. I may look thin but inside I am still a fat girl,” Sonam added. The Delhi 6 star, who was last seen in multi-starrer Players opposite Abhishek Bachchan, has battled weight issues before stepping into Bollywood.

“It’s because of my work I am determined to stay in shape. In my profession there is a constant demand to look good with people watching you all the time. It’s my job to look good as there are people investing money in me. It’s also that I love clothes a lot and I just want to fit into them and so I try and maintain my body.”
